Through American Eyes : Religion and Society in Oman, featuring photographs by Edward Grazda, is a joint project of the Institute for American Values and the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. In 2005, as part of the Institute for American Values’ Islam West Engagement Project, Grazda was commissioned to produce an intimate portrait of daily life in Oman. The images in this exhibition reveal a world in transition, capturing Oman as it moves from an ancient and traditional society just as it hurtles itself toward a modern one. Viewers from the Middle East and from the West can now gaze at the beauty and detail of Omani culture, seeing images that point us toward our common humanity and move us closer toward a global civil society.
